Man gets life sentence for killing wife

The Nagercoil Mahila Court on Wednesday sentenced a man to undergo life sentence for murdering his wife.

According to sources, John Rose of Punnathanamvilai, a daily wage earner, killed his wife Rani on August 1, 2010, by hitting her with a hallow block. He was arrested by Thiruvattar police on the basis of a complaint lodged by panchayat president Sundaradoss.

Hearing the case, the Mahalir Court judge A. Kayalvizhi awarded life sentence and also slapped a fine of Rs. 10,000 on him.

The convicted person should undergo another year of imprisonment in the event of failure to pay the fine.
