The sole ambition of a boy from Vellore district to get admission to Standard VIII in Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, seems to have been fulfilled following a Madras High Court order.
The court has now directed the college to admit G. Ravindra Nath Yadav for the academic year commencing from July.
A Division Bench comprising Justices N.Paul Vasanthakumar and M.Sathyanarayanan passed the judgment on an appeal filed by the boy, through his father, G.Gopal Yadav of Agaram village. The boy had made two attempts to join the college, but was unsuccessful.
In the third try, his application was rejected on the ground that the application was received on November 30, 2012, instead of September 30 . He filed a writ petition before the High Court. A single Judge dismissed the petition on November 22, 2013. Hence, the present appeal.
Allowing the appeal, the Bench said the boy was not at all at fault. His application was sent through courier well within time. Due to the fact that the TNPSC, which conducted the exam, shifted its office from Omandurar Estate to Frazer Bridge Road here, the application was returned. The applicant’s father met the officials and the appellant was allowed to sit for the written examination. The boy was the sole successful candidate from Tamil Nadu. A viva voce was conducted. His sole ambition was to get admission in RIMC and thereafter to serve the country. The ambition could not be nipped in the bud on account of the lapses by the TNPSC, the Bench said.
