Lorry transporting wooden logs detained

The revenue officials detained a lorry transporting wood stock from Yercaud hills on Saturday. On a tip off that trees are being illegally felled on the Yercaud hills and the wood is being transported in lorries, C. Vijaybabu, Revenue Divisional Officer, Salem, directed revenue officials to conduct surprise check of vehicles at Yercaud foothills.

The official team intercepted a lorry transporting wood and the lorry driver Ravi informed the officials that the wood was being transported with the permission of the forest department. The forest department personnel were summoned and they verified the documents possessed by the driver and confirmed that the oak trees were felled in patta land in Puliangadai area with the permission of the forest officials. However, Mr. Vijaybabu directed the forest officials to make thorough investigation and present a report to him.

Permission

Following a report of the senior forest officials that the wood was being transported with the proper permission of the department, the revenue officials released the vehicle, official sources said.
