Liquor smugglers arrested

The police have arrested three persons for allegedly smuggling liquor to Sankarankovil from Puducherry. When a Prohibition Enforcement Wing team, led by DSP Jayachandran, checked vehicles near Sankarankovil on Tuesday, the intercepted a moped which had a huge bag. As 48 liquor bottles, all smuggled from Puducherry, had been packed in the bag, Mariappan (35) of Ramanathapuram near Sankarankovil, who was riding the two-wheeler, was arrested.

Based on his confession, the police arrested Samidurai of Thangammalpuram and Ponnusamy of Madaththukulam near Sankarankovil and seized from them 250 liquor bottles, all smuggled from Puducherry.

The police seized two bikes and a sports utility vehicle which were used for smuggling liquor.
