Deeply shocked about the demise of V.R. Krishna Iyer, known for his legal acumen and simplicity, Governor K. Rosaiah on Friday offered his condolences to the family of the former Supreme Court judge.
The passing away of the great legal luminary has left a void in the judiciary as he had, on no occasion, hesitated to uphold the principles of democracy, law and justice, Mr. Rosaiah said.
AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, in her condolence message, said Iyer was a great humanitarian and social worker apart from being an erudite judge.
He would remain a beacon light for legal luminaries. Judicial and legal circles would continue to cherish the legacy of Iyer’s wisdom and erudition, she said.
Expressing condolences, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said Iyer’s humanitarian and constructive approach was evident in his open remarks on various issues stifling the country.
His statement against death penalty would stand the test of time in the judicial history of the country, Mr. Karunanidhi said.
Our Special Correspondent writes from Puducherry:
The Federation for People’s Rights (FPR) has condoled the death of Iyer.
In a message, FPR secretary G. Sugumaran said that through his judgments, Iyer upheld the point that courts were meant for the common man. He was a “great humanist and saviour of human rights.”
