All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo Jayalalithaa deeply analysed every scheme before announcing it not for implementing it but for cheating people, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Kanimozhi has said.
Campaigning for DMK candidate M. Basheer Ahmad here on Thursday, she said that Ms. Jayalalithaa hiked power tariff thrice in the last five years. Now, she had announced free power of 100 units in her election manifesto. She could have scaled it down last year or even before that. But she did not. Her freebies were just political stunts to hoodwink voters.
She never met people during her tenure. Now, she started meeting people. But people were afraid of meeting her as they had to undergo torture and mental agony at her public meetings. People were corralled under scorching sun and many fainted and some died. But she ignored the deaths of party workers and continued her speech, she charged. Tasmac shops had wiped out all the earnings of poor people. .
At the same time, new industries were not coming up and existing ones were facing closure owing to power crisis. Lakhs of educated youths remained jobless in the absenceof industrial development. Tamil Nadu was lacking in education sector too. The government was forced to close government schools. The DMK would bring about a change, she added.
While campaigning for DMK candidate M. Andi Ambalam in Natham, she said that the DMK would take steps to organise ‘jallikattu’ in Tamil Nadu. Later she campaigned for Athoor candidate I. Periyasamy in Chinnalapatti.
