The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakanth faulted the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for not meeting her Karnataka counterpart to get adequate water Cauvery water for the State.
The entire state was facing severe water scarcity causing much anxiety to the people. Had Ms. Jayalalithaa met the Karnataka Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu would have got adequate water in River Cauvery, Mr. Vijayakanth said while speaking at a public meeting under the party’s ‘Makkalukkaga Makkal Pani’ programme in Mecheri town near Mettur late on Wednesday evening.
Ms. Jayalalithaa would have nothing personal against Mr. Siddharamaiah and as such she should have met him in the overall interest of the state.
He reminded that when similar situation arose in the past, the then Chief Minister late M. G. Ramachandran rushed to Bengaluru to meet the then Karnataka Chief Minister Gundu Rao to appraise him of the serious situation in Tamil Nadu and prevailed upon him to release adequate water. Late Gundu Rao readily obliged and instantly ordered the release of water.
Ms. Jayalalithaa has adopted the same approach towards the Kerala Chief Minister on the Mullaperiyar Dam issue too in the past, he said.
This was mainly due to her obstinacy, he said adding that people will teach her a fitting lesson.
Mr. Vijayakanth said both the DMK and AIAMDK had done nothing worthy for the overall development of the state and in uplifting the living conditions of the people. After 1967, the regimes of late Anna and MGR alone provided good governance and brought solace to the people.
He said that the CAG report has found fault with the Jayalalithaa regime for various irregularities and corruption to the tune of several crores of rupees.
All sections of society were undergoing severe torture in the State in the present regime, he said.
Premalatha Vijayakanth, explained the various development works launched in the three constituencies of Mettur, Gangavalli and Salem North, in the district which elected DMDK MLAs in the last Assembly election.
Referring the various announcements made by Chief Minister under Rule 110, Ms. Premalatha said that she was only fooling the people by announcing various projects under this rule, which could not be implemented.
Mr. Vijayakanth gave away welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 25 lakh to transgenders.
