Greening drive launched in Ariyalur

September 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 28, 2016 03:02 pm IST - ARIYALUR:

The district administration has launched a greening drive in the district and has adopted clay pot irrigation technique to conserve water.

In the first phase of the programme, about 200 tree saplings would be planted along the road between Periyanagalur and Chinna Nagalur through the District Rural Development Agency, Collector A. Saravanavelraj said.

The saplings would be watered through clay pot technique wherein clay pots with a small hole at the bottom would be buried adjacent to the sapling. The pots would be filled with water for percolation. The technique would help in water conservation and ensure continuous wetting for the plant. Tree guards would be installed to protect the plants from stray animals, he said.
