A 20-year-old second year B.A. student of a private college in Namakkal drowned in River Cauvery at Koneripatti in Edappadi here on Tuesday. The incident occurred when G. Priya of Karungalpatti along with her family was taking bath in the river on the occasion of Aadi festival. It was said that she entered deep waters and drowned. Fire and Rescue Service personnel and the police rescued her body after an hour. The body was taken to Government Hospital in Edappadi.

The police on Tuesday arrested a 23-year-old man who was part of the gang that abducted businessman T. Rajkumar of Shivaya Nagar recently.
He along with his three workers was abducted on July 14 by a gang and was released after ransom of Rs. 20 lakh was paid.
Four persons surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate court in Kallakurichi in Villupuram district recently while the police had arrested two persons. Based on inquiries, the police arrested Maheswaran of Vazhapadi and lodged him at prison. Search is on for Gayatri and Vijayan.
