The Department of Income Tax will organise a free lecture on ‘Income Declaration Scheme 2016’ at Hotel Apple Tree here on Wednesday at 4 p.m. to explain the provisions of the scheme and create awareness among the public about this newly introduced strategy.
In a statement, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Tirunelveli Range, R. Rajeswari said the Government of India had introduced the ‘Income Declaration Scheme 2016’ for providing an opportunity to all persons, who had not declared their income correctly in earlier years and encourage them to come forward to declare such so far undisclosed income. The scheme would remain in force for a period of 4 months from June 1, 2016 for filing of declaration and payments towards taxes, surcharge and penalty must be made latest by November 30, 2016. The meeting would be addressed by senior officials and doubts of the participants about the provisions of the scheme clarified.
“This is an earnest attempt to educate the taxpayers and the common citizens about tax laws and to inculcate healthy tax culture wherein the taxpayers and the tax collector should discharge their obligations with a sense of responsibility towards nation building,” she said.
