The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has fielded former Minister and Kanyakumari East district secretary N. Suresh Rajan in Nagercoil.

He defeated former AIADMK Minister N. Thalavai Sundaram in 1996 and 2006 elections in Kanyakumari and held the portfolios of Tourism in 2006 and Tourism and Registration in 2011. He was defeated in the same constituency in 2001 and 2006 by Mr. Thalavai Sundaram. For the first time Mr. Suresh Rajan is contesting from Nagercoil.

Former Rajya Sabha member and State vice-president of the minority wing J. Austin has been fielded in Kanyakumari. He will face AIADMK strongman and former Minister Mr. Thalavai Sundaram. Mr. Austin unsuccessfully contested in the Assembly elections of 2001 in MGR AIADMK ticket in Nagercoil, in 2006 as an Independent candidate in Nagercoil and in 2011 in Padmanabhapuram constituency in a Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam ticket. He also unsuccessfully contested in the 2011 Parliament election from Kanyakumari constituency as the DMDK candidate. Mr. Austin joined the DMK only three years ago. However he is familiar among the minority community in Kanyakumari district.

Kanyakumari West district secretary Mano Thangaraj is the DMK candidate for Padmanabhapuram, a stronghold of the DMK-Congress alliance. Mr. Mano Thangaraj started his political career with the Janata Dal and later joined the DMK.
