Floral tributes paid to victims of Kumbakonam fire

Students of Government Arts College, Tiruvannamalai paid floral tributes to the portrait of victims of 2004-Kumbakonam School Fire Accident here on Friday in view of the anniversary of the disaster that actually falls on July 16.

They observed the event a day earlier as the July 16 falls on Saturday, a holiday.

Students organised by Students Federation of India (SFI) showered petals of flowers on the portrait depicting 94 children who were killed in the accident that was kept outside the college.

Earlier, the students have also staged demonstration against exorbitant fees collected by private self financing schools over and above the fees fixed by the government.

They raised slogans against the fleecing. Government Arts College branch secretary of SFI K.Sinnarasu led the protest.

SFI district secretary N. Anbarasan and State Committee Member S.Prakash were among the participants.
