Five held on murder charge

Five persons, who were part of the mob that stoned a 28-year-old youth to death in Mallur area were arrested by the police. The clash that erupted between two communities of Vengampatti village and Ambedkar Nagar respectively on Thursday ended with B. Karthick being stoned to death.

Mallur police registered a case under Sections 147(rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 302 (murder) of IPC. The police arrested Sundaram (40), Jeyathilagan (47), Govindan (32), Madeswaran (32) and Sakthivel (43), all of Ambedkar Nagar, and lodged them in prison. The police said that search is on for more accused who are on the run after the incident.

Meanwhile, police personnel continue to provide security in both the villages.
