Farmer, wife pledge to donate bodies

A 65-year old man, Baskaran, and his wife B. Ambika (63) handed over a letter expressing their willingness to donate their bodies after death for research purpose to S. Vadivel Murugan, Dean, Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital (KGMCH), here on Wednesday.

Later, Mr. Baskaran, who did not have formal education, said that he wanted to do something for society and help students of medicine. He is Kulasekaram area president of All India Kisan Sangh (AIKS), affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

N. Murugesan, district secretary of the CPI (M), A.V. Bellarmin, former MP and district executive committee member, and Sasikumar, State secretary, Tamil Nadu Science Forum, were also present. Dr. Vadivel Murugan honoured the couple with a shawl and said that the pledge to donate bodies by them would make youngsters come forward to donate their bodies for research purposes.
