Kicking off his campaign for the Assembly elections at Papanasam on Wednesday, TMC president G.K. Vasan said it is time the voters put an end to five decades of misrule by the AIADMK and the DMK governments.
Seeking support for the party’s candidate S.D. Jayakumar, Mr. Vasan, who is not contesting the elections, said the DMDK-People's Welfare Front-TMC combine would end the misdeeds of the Dravidian parties. The alliance leaders enjoyed an impeccable and clean image and were in the best position to eliminate the “corrupt” AIADMK and the DMK, he claimed.
Alleging that all sections of society were disenchanted with the two Dravidian parties, the former Union Minister observed that while Kamaraj brought development, the Dravidian parties wrought only havoc.
“The Assembly elections will rewrite the political history of the State. Never in the past 50 years has such a strong alliance come about to challenge the hegemony enjoyed by the DMK and the AIADMK ,” he said.Conceding that he was ambivalent initially in joining the rainbow alliance, Mr. Vasan said that despite the delay, the alliance leaders accommodated the TMC with poise .
The party’s manifesto would be released in Chennai on Friday, Mr. Vasan said.
