Decks have been cleared to start an ambient air quality monitoring station in the SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre, and to construct the office of District Environment Engineer, Perundurai Division.

Sanction has been secured for the establishment of the station in the allotted land inside the industrial complex. The monitoring station will help save time since currently, the air quality is being tested in the neighbouring districts of Salem and Tirupur, says Udayakumar, Assistant Environment Engineer, Perundurai Division. The air emitted by chimneys of individual industries is now being monitored online by the TNPCB Head Office in Chennai. Whenever the norms are flouted, the units are alerted, and the local officials are provided with information through SMS. The ambient air quality monitoring station will enable determination of the situation inside the Growth Centre in totality, Mr. Udayakumar said, adding that in due course the units will be linked to the Water Quality Watch Centre.

Likewise, all required clearances had been obtained for construction of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board office on the allotted 34 cents, he said.
