Ranga Raghvan, 40, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable, who was killed in an IED blast triggered by Maoists on Chhattisgarh-Telangana border on Friday, was laid to rest with full State honours at his native Kottakarai village near Vadalur on Saturday.
Mr. Raghvan attached to the 217th battalion of the CRPF along with other jawans had gone from Maraliguda to provide protection for road construction works when he was killed in the explosion.
The cortege of Ranga Raghvan arrived here around 12 p.m. after it was flown in from Chattisgarh to Chennai airport on Saturday.
A 25-member CRPF team from Avadi, Chennai led by S. Ilango, Deputy Inspector General, accompanied the cortege from the Airport to his village here.
District Collector S. Suresh Kumar and Superintendent of Police Vijaya Kumar paid homage to the body. Hundreds of people from all walks of life, including CRPF and police personnel, government officials, and students turned up at his house to pay homage.
Later, the coffin draped in the tri-colour was brought in a procession and laid to rest at Kottakarai village. Ranga Raghvan had last visited his native in January this year. He is survived by his wife Sudha and two children Manoj Sarangan (6) and Nagarjun (5).
