Continuous rain lashes Kanyakumari

50.4 mm rainfall registered in Kottaram

Continuous rain was reported in many parts of Kanyakumari district for the last two days. Kottaram near Kanyakumari received a maximum rainfall of 50.4 mm. Rain continued till Saturday morning increasing the inflow into major dams in the district.

Due to rain in the catchment areas of many waterbodies, discharge from almost all the dams, except Pechiparai dam, has been stopped.

The water level of Pechiparai dam stood at 35.70 feet as against its total height of 48 feet and Perunchani had water at 64.90 feet as against its full height of 70 feet. The water level in Poigai dam was 8.60 and Mambazhathuraiaru was 46.10 feet.

Rainfall registered in other stations in the district (in mm): Mayiladi 35.4, Kannimar 12.2, Balamore 6.5, Adayamadai and Nagercoil 6, Kurunthancode 3, Boothapandi 2 and Kozhiporvilai 1.3, sources in the WRO of PWD said.
