A container lorry carrying new currency notes from Bank Note Press in Nanjangud near Mysore in Karnataka to the Reserve Bank of India, Thiruvananthapuram, overturned near Nagercoil on Friday.

The incident took place when the driver pulled the brakes to avoid hitting a goat in Therekalpudur near Nagercoil, sources said.

The container lorry was escorted by a team of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.

Reliable sources said that heavy weight recovery vehicles were summoned to rescue the container lorry, which had overturned on the roadside. Other two containers carrying currencies proceeded to Thiruvananthapuram safely, the sources added. Local police were mobilised for security at the spot.

When contacted, police were tight-lipped and claimed that the container was carrying some important material for ISRO in Thiruvananthapuram.
