Case registered against municipal chairperson

Based on the Madras High Court direction, the Attur police have registered a case against the Attur municipal chairperson P. Umarani for criminally intimidating a family who demanded their house document here.

No action taken

Ramasamy (45) borrowed Rs. 3 lakh from Umarani six years ago by pledging his house document. It is said that he repaid the money with interest and demanded the document. However, Umarani demanded more money and refused to return the document. Ramasamy lodged complaint with the police. But, no case was registered or no action taken.

It is said that Umarani along with 15 others entered the house of Ramasamy and assaulted him and his family members. Ramasamy approached the Madras High Court demanding action.

The court ordered the police to register a case.

Accordingly, the police registered a case against Umarani and 15 others under Sections 147 (rioting), 294 (b) (uttering obscene words in public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 448 (house-trespass) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of IPC.
