Association activities begin

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Francis Xavier Engineering College conducted the inauguration of activities of its association, ‘E-CORALS-16,’ for the academic year. The function was chaired by Principal V. Ilangovan and the chief guest was S. Vijay Krishnan, Sub Divisional Engineer (IT), BSNL, Tirunelveli. Association co-coordinator and Associate Professor M. Navaneetha Velammal introduced the new office-bearers. R.Vedha Priya Vadhana, Head of the Department, and III year student Kavya spoke on activities of the association and the department. Vanitha Jafani, another III year student, detailed the upcoming events for this academic year.

SmartDV Technologies visited the college to recruit final-year students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering students. Around 700 students from Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts participated in it. About 150 of them were from SCAD Group of Institutions comprising Francis Xavier Engineering College, SCAD Engineering College and Mother Theresa Engineering College. Kavitha, Director, SmartDV Technologies, coordinated the recruitment process. The results will be intimated within a week and around 100 students are expected to be placed.

Founder’s Day

Einstein College of Engineering, Tirunelveli celebrated the Founder’s Day recently by organising competitions for school students. The chief guest, A. Tamilvanan, GM of Ford Motors, United States, in his special address, insisted that finding the truth behind everything was the most important trait that should be cultivated. Professor A. Amudhavanan insisted on comprehensive learning. He said teachers, parents, students, along with good infrastructure and management could create a harmonious atmosphere for the students.

More than 30 schools participated in the event and around 350 students participated in various competitions. St. Joseph Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Shencottai, bagged the overall championship trophy.

Wins boxing medal

A final-year EEE student, T. G. Pari, of AAA College of Engineering and Technology, Sivakasi, won a gold medal in the Senior State-Level Boxing Championship for Men organised by the Boxing Association of Tamil Nadu in Chennai from July 1 to 3. Chairman P. Panjurajan, secretary P. Karvannan, correspondent P. Ganesan and Principal K. Arulmozhi congratulated him for the achievement.

Stress on women empowerment

The inauguration of College Union of V.V. Vanniaperumal College for Women, Virudhunagar, was conducted on July 12. Andal Priyadarshini, Director, Doordarshan, Coimbatore, who was the chief guest, in her address stressed the importance of women empowerment.

The College Union chairman, P. Aishwaraya, welcomed the gathering. College president R.T.R. Vannianandham and secretary S.K.P.P.V.B. Arumugam offered felicitations., The College Union Cabinet members, student secretaries of various department association and house captains were honoured with badges. N. J. Manjula proposed a vote of thanks.

On research prospects

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, conducted an interaction meeting on ‘Research prospects with Science and Engineering Research Board’ on July 8. R. Brakaspathy, Secretary, SSERB, the resource person, explained the research funding opportunities in SERB, extramural funding availability to individual researchers and fellowships for faculty members. S. Arivazhagan, Principal, outlined the research activities of the college. He said that the institution had 103 research projects worth Rs 11 crore.

Importance of women

The Women Cell of Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, was inaugurated on July 13 by Latha Abiruben, secretary, Civic Exnora. In her talk on ‘Women empowerment: Key lies with women,’ Ms. Latha spoke about the importance of women in society, their rights and challenges.

MoU signed

Kalasalingam University, Krishnankoil, signed a pact with W2B Technologies, Chennai, for on-campus research and development centre on July 16. The MoU was signed by Shasi Anand Sridharan, Director, KLU, and Ramaiah Chidambaram, Managing Director, W2B Technologies. By this MoU, KLU had been chosen to set up an R and D centre of W2B Technologies, said Vice-Chancellor S. Saravanasankar.
