Bridge work nearing completion

The work on the construction of a bridge across River Cauvery connecting the villages of Mohanur in Namakkal district, and Vangal in Karur district are nearing completion, said P. Thangamani, State Industries and Transport Minister.

About 95 per cent of the works have already been completed. The Chief Minister will commission it as soon as all the works were over, Mr. Thangamani said while speaking at a function to distribute free mixers, grinders, and table fans in Mohanur panchayat recently.

The bridge is being constructed at an outlay of Rs. 43.5 crore with the financial assistance from Nabard. The construction works commenced in 2009. The bridge would be 1.5 km long, and has 56 deck slabs.

Mr. Thangamani said laptops worth Rs. 69 crore have been distributed to 42,319 students of the district so far.
