Body of fisherman shot at Qatar handed over to family

The body of A. Antony Arul Anish (21) of Inaimputhanthurai in Kanyakumari district, who was shot dead by pirates of Iran in Bahrain sea on August 8, was handed over to the family members on Wednesday night.

Minister for Fisheries K.A. Jayapal and Fisheries Commissioner Beela Rajesh, along with officials from the Department of Fisheries, accompanied the body from Thiruvananthapuram airport to the village.

The Minister, Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan, and officials paid respects and consoled the family members. The fisherman was shot dead while fishing in a boat along with four other fishermen for an employer based in Qatar in Bahrain sea.

Four escaped

Four other fishermen from Kanyakumari district, who had gone with the deceased, had escaped the attack.

Former Minister N. Thalavai Sundaram, Kanyakumari MLA K.T. Pachaimal and Chairman of State Fisheries Cooperative Union Xavier Manohar also paid homage.

Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Trust Chairman P. Justin Antony appealed to the government to provide employment to one of the family members of the deceased.
