Medical students must keep themselves abreast of the recent developments in various branches of the field for which books and visual aides play a significant role, District Collector N. Subbaiyan said here on Tuesday.

Speaking after inaugurating a book exhibition on the Thanjavur Medical College premises, Dr. Subbaiyan said that youth aspiring to make it big in the medical field needed to be updated on numerous interlinked areas of knowledge as the fruits of research sprout every day from throughout the world.

Journals, magazines, and books besides audio-visual aides play a vital role in keeping the medical professionals well informed of the developments.

He pointed out that 10 publishing houses were participating in the book exhibition that displayed over 90,000 titles.

TMCH Dean M. Singaravelu said the college would be purchasing books estimated at Rs. 80 lakh for the use of students, teachers, and research faculty.

He said that books were offered at discounted rates at the fair and the students could make use of them.

Medical Superintendent M. Elangovan and Library Committee secretary A. Bharathi participated in the book festival launch.
