Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad is likely to meet DMK president M. Karunanidhi later this week to formally seal an alliance pact with the Dravidian party.
Sources in the DMK confirmed that the Congress has approached them directly to initiate the talks since the Election Commission is expected to notify the polls by month-end.
"The exact date of the visit has not been confirmed. But we are expecting Mr. Azad to come before February 15. That the two parties will have an alliance is almost certain now," a senior DMK leader said.
However, the leader said, the two parties have not discussed seat sharing yet since the DMDK led by Vijayakant has not communicated its decision on being part of the DMK-led alliance.
