Youth kills self

A 25-year-old youth was found struggling for life, with his body half-burnt, along Madurai-Natham highway near Kancharampettai on Sunday evening. The victim was rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital. However, he succumbed to burns on the way, police said. While initially the police suspected that the youth was set ablze by some unidentified persons, they later surmised that it should be a case of suicide. The police found a bicycle near the scene of crime and a plastic bottle with a trace of kerosene. The police said that the youth could had committed self-immolation some 200 metres away from the road. However, after he could not tolerate the pain, he could have run towards the road seeking help. The M. Chathirapatti police have registered a case of suspicious death.

Chain snatched

Unidentified persons snatched a part of a gold chain from a railway staff, Courtallam Amaithi (42), at Ellis Nagar on Saturday evening.

Police said the victim was walking along the road when two persons who followed her suddenly yanked the gold chain. However, only 10 grams of the four-sovereign chain went to the hands of the culprit.
