The district president of the Desiya Makkal Iyakkam, an activist group, has lodged a complaint with the Mallur police that activist Piyush Manush, along with two others, had allegedly assaulted him in Nilavarapatti on Friday evening.

In his police complaint, Viswanathan (40) said he worked as the manager for A.B. Manikandan, who is the legal advisor of the Iyakkam and AIADMK district panchayat councillor. Manikandan owns a house and land in Chamundi Nagar and taken up renovation work.

On Friday evening, Mr. Manush along with Chinraj, ward member, and another person took photographs and videographed the house and the land belonging to the councillor.

When Mr. Viswanathan questioned them, the three allegedly assaulted him with stones.

Mr. Viswanathan fell down and raised an alarm. When neighbours came to his rescue, the three fled in a vehicle, he added.

Mr. Viswanathan was admitted to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Based on his complaint, the police issued a CSR, but are yet to begin inquiry.

However, Mr. Manush has denied the charge of assaulting the manager.
