Activist seeks public support

S. Gunasekaran, lawyer-activist, who is demanding a legislation to prevent honour killings, ended his fast that began here on November 6. He has now sought public support for such a legislation. The campaign will focus on voting against the present government in the 2016 elections for their failure to bring in legislation to end honour killings”, he said.

According to him, provision for life imprisonment should be given to the accused involved in the honour killing and also to whoever, who fail to protect the incident from happening.

“Already, Supreme Court direction is there to the State Governments to suspend the Collector and SP of the district and proceed against them departmentally if they did not act to prevent the incident when they have knowledge about it in advance or it has occurred and they failed to promptly apprehend the accused.
