Accused in murder case to be produced before board

Six of the 11 accused in the murder of Dalit youth Shankar and attack of his caste Hindu wife Kausalya will be produced before the Advisory Board set up by the government for detentions made under the Goondas Act, on Thursday.

U. Sankaranarayanan, Special Public Prosecutor appointed by the government in the case, said the six persons who were served the detention order under Goondas Act would be given an opportunity to present their versions before the Board comprising judicial officers, regarding their detention under the Goondas Act.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Udumalpet), who made the recommendations to the Collector for detaining them under the Goondas Act, was also told to be present on the day.

As the detainees were taken to Chennai, the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Alamelu Natarajan, adjourned the trial and posted it to Monday.
