Perarivalan appears in court in assault case

A.G. Perarivalan, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, appeared before the Judicial Magistrate Court - I on Wednesday in connection with the case relating to an assault on him inside the Vellore Central Prison last year.

Perarivalan (44) was reportedly assaulted by a fellow inmate – Rajesh Khanna – inside the prison on September 13 last year. Khanna, a life convict, reportedly attacked Perarivalan using an iron road. Perarivalan sustained injury on his scalp and was treated.

Following this incident, the prisons department shifted Khanna to the Cuddalore prison. On Wednesday, he was brought from the Cuddalore prison to the Vellore court for the hearing that commenced in the afternoon.
