Keel Pennathur Inspector of Police Pugazh and Arani taluk station Sub Inspector Ganapathy have been suspended for allegedly taking bribe from a person suspected to have links with red sanders smugglers.

After preliminary inquiry they were placed under suspension, said Superintendent of Police R. Ponni. When asked whether they were part of the red sanders monitoring team she said “no”. She declined to divulge the details of the complaint against them.

However, sources said both Mr. Pugazh and Mr. Ganapathy allegedly demanded a huge sum from Mr. Madan, who is suspected to have links with red sanders smugglers. When he parted with a portion of the money, they demanded more if action was not to be taken against him. The duo took away Mr. Madan’s car too when he failed to accede to their demands, it is alleged.

He had recorded their telephonic conversation and approached higher officials with a copy of the conversation which resulted in their suspension.
