VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has praised AIADMK’s newly elected general secretary V. K. Sasikala, calling her a “very confident leader”.
“She promised to run a party and a government that is free of casteist and religious interference, along the lines of Jayalalithaa,” Mr. Thirumavalan told The Hindu, following his meeting with Ms. Sasikala on Saturday. Recalling his previous meeting with Ms. Sasikala in 2006, he said, “We were part of the AIADMK alliance in the Assembly polls and it was Ms. Sasikala who held seat-sharing talks with us. We had four rounds of meetings with her before Jayalalithaa signed the agreement.”
“We have nothing to say about her election as the general secretary of the AIADMK, since it was an unanimous decision of the general council of the party and all the senior leaders, without exception, have rallied behind her,” he said.
“I also told her how Jayalalithaa was looked down upon when she became the general secretary of the party following the demise of party founder MGR. But she went on to prove that she was an iron lady. Sasikala should take a cue from Jayalalithaa and lead the party,” Mr. Thirumavalavan added.
