More than 30,000 new voters have been enrolled in the eight Assembly constituencies of Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts during a special enrolment drive from January 21 to April 15, ahead of the May 16 Assembly elections.
Releasing the final electoral roll here on Friday in the presence of Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan and General Observers Victor B Macvon and Ramesh Varma, Ramanathapuram District Election Officer and Collector S. Natarajan said that 17,006 new voters had enrolled their names, while names of 13,995 voters were deleted on the heads of deaths, duplication and shifting.
The final tally stood at 11,01,418 — 5,50,615 men, 5,49,506 women, 73 others and 1,224 service voters, he said. A total of 1,307 polling stations had been set up in 747 locations in four Assembly segments in the district.
The district administration was fully geared up for the polling and kept in readiness 2,410 ballot units and 2,228 control units, he said. More than 10,000 government staff and teachers would be drafted for the polling exercise, he added.
The observers, accompanied by the Collector and SP, inspected an election awareness campaign being carried out in the Hi Tech LED publicity vehicle of the Department of Information and Public Relations to achieve 100 per cent polling. They also visited the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee Centre and photo exhibition set up to create election awareness at the Collectorate complex.
Sivaganga
In Sivaganga, 13,271 new voters have been enrolled during the special drive and after deleting the names of 2,155 voters, the final tally stood at 10,80,751 — 5,35,658 men, 5,45,060 women and 33 others.
District Election Office and Collector S Malarvizhi released the final electoral roll in Sivaganga.
