After expressing its displeasure on the steep hike in rail fares, the Shiv Sena has now criticised rising prices, saying the budget of the ordinary housewife had collapsed.

An editorial in the party newspaper Saamna on Tuesday said, "The public had hoped that rising prices in the UPA regime would reduce but that has not happened yet. After rail hikes, gas prices could increase and sugar will soon become bitter. The monsoon has not yet set in and vegetable prices are touching the sky."

The editorial says sugar prices are set to rise by Rs 4 per kilo to help the sugar industry. It says vegetable prices have doubled because of the delayed rains and gas cylinder prices are set to rise by Rs 10.
