No threat from IS: Nirmal Singh

September 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 28, 2016 03:23 pm IST - PANAJI:

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh has ruled out any immediate threat to the State from the Islamic State (IS), playing down the significance of youths waving Pakistani and IS flags in recent times.

“They are just one or two persons, and they are doing it for media attention and do not have any impact,” he said at a press conference here on Thursday.

Mr. Nirmal Singh of the BJP said the Union government had taken steps towards decentralisation, and development funds for the State now came directly from the Centre.

He said the State government was serious about the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the State. It did not want them to go back to their original zones; efforts were being made to persuade them to live in composite colonies.

“Once the Union government’s relief package comes off, our objective will be to see that they go back to their ancestral homes,” he said.
