Police have arrested three persons in connection with two separate rapes in Manipur. Two tribals, Veishini and John of Karong in Senapati district were arrested in connection with the gangrape of a 35-year-old housewife. One accused person is absconding.

The three accused entered the woman’s house on March 15 at 10 a.m. on the pretext of drinking water. They took advantage of the absence of any person in the house and allegedly gangraped the woman.

The Karong Women's Society and the victim later lodged a complaint with the police. Police say that they are looking for the absconding accused.

In another incident, a 24-year-old mentally-challenged girl was raped by Ngamyon, a security personnel and a colleague of the victim’s father.

On the night of March 16, the accused had come to the house. He lured her out and raped her twice. Later the father came to know of the crime and lodged a complaint with the police. The accused has been arrested.
