A landmine planted by Maoists was discovered by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Narayanpatna block of Koraput district in Odisha on Thursday.

A team of BSF personnel involved in combing operation found the landmine under a culvert near Anchalpur village on Narayanpatna-Podapadar road.

As per reports, the landmine was safely recovered and defused.

The landmine was around 10 kilogram in weight was planted targeting security personnel involved in anti-Maoist operations in the area. It may be noted that few years ago, Narayanpatna was a major den of Maoists.

With successful anti-Maoist operations that led to the death, arrest as wells as surrender of Maoists and their supporters, their presence in this area has come down drastically. According to police sources, it is being ascertained whether this landmine was planted recently or it was an old one planted in the past when Maoists had ample presence in the area.
