Kingpin of drug peddling gang held

An alleged drug smuggler was arrested and 11 kgs of cannabis seized from his possession in Transport Nagar Narwal area of Jammu district, police said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, Sushant Nayak, the alleged kingpin of a narcotic gang from Odisha was arrested on Friday at a check post in Transport Nagar Narwal area, a police spokesperson said.

11 kgs of cannabis with street value over Rs 9 lakh was recovered from the accused, he claimed.

During interrogation, the accused said that he had purchased narcotics from Chhattisgarh and was supposed to hand them over to the drug peddlers in Jammu, the spokesperson said.

The accused has been arrested under various sections of NDPS Act, he said, adding the investigation is underway.
