Congress notice to MLA caught in liquor sting in Bihar

BJP dares Nitish Kumar government to take stern action against the lawmaker

The Congress on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to party MLA from Narkatiyaganj in Bihar, Vinay Verma, who was caught on camera offering liquor to guests in a sting operation. The “teetotaller” MLA said it was a “political conspiracy” against him while the opposition BJP dared the Nitish Kumar government to take stern action against the MLA. But the RJD gave him a clean chit. A case under the government’s new excise policy was later lodged against the MLA.

“We have issued a show-cause notice to our party MLA. If he is found guilty the high command will take action against him,” Bihar Congress president and State Education Minister Ashok Chaudhary told The Hindu .

The Congress is the coalition partner of the ruling JD (U) and RJD. It may be recalled that all the legislators had taken a pledge in the Assembly not to consume liquor.
