Congress MLA appears for board examination in Odisha

Kailash Chandra Kulesika, Congress MLA from Laxmipur in Rayagada district of Odisha, is appearing for secondary board examination this year to enthuse school dropouts like him to continue their higher education.

He is appearing for the examinations at the Government Girls’ High School centre in Rayagada town. Mr Kulesika could not continue his studies Class VIII because of untimely death of his father.

He has also made efforts to directly obtain a bachelor’s degree through IGNOU, which allows for it when a candidate clears an entrance test of higher secondary level.

He had enrolled with IGNOU in 2005 for it but could not clear all papers within stipulated time till 2011. In 2015 he has again got readmitted in IGNOU to clear his back papers.

Meanwhile he got interested to clear the secondary school board examination. Speaking to The Hindu , Mr Kulesika said he got interested to appear for the secondary board examination, as he realized that even after getting a degree certificate from IGNOU, he would never have certificates for matriculation and plus 2 examinations.

According to him he decided to appear for the secondary board examination, when Board of Secondary Education decided to allow students who had left education after Class VII to appear for tenth class board examination through correspondence course.

“I wanted tribal school dropouts like me realize importance of these examinations”, he said.

He was too happy with his performance in the examination he is appearing for and hoped for good result. His effort has already started to show results.

Fifteen tribal school drop outs of Bhalujodi have already decided to resume their education and appear for tenth class board examination next year through correspondence course. Mr Kulisika is providing all support to these school dropouts.

Mr Kulesika hails from a remote village under Laxmipur blockHe had to take up responsibility of his family after his father died.

In 2014, he was elected a MLA on a Congress ticket despite pro-Naveen Patnaik wave in the State.
