ASG office opened in Patna

The office of the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India at the Patna High Court premises was on Friday inaugurated by Acting Chief Justice Iqbal Ahmad Ansari.

Senior advocate S. D. Sanjay is the first Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India for the State of Bihar.

Mr. Sanjay was appointed to the post on April 8, 2015, by the Appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He will represent Government of India’s side at the Patna HC and Central Administrative Tribunal in matters relating to the Centre.

The Centre had created the ASG’s post on December 10, 2014 for Bihar, Karnataka, Punjab, Jharkhand and Gujarat after amending the Law Officers Service Condition Rule 1987.

Prior to the appointment in these five States, ASGs have already been appointed in Bombay, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Allahabad High Courts. PTI
