PUNE: The BJP may seem well-placed in the fight for the Nashik Municipal Corporation, but it is in an awkward situation after a couple of videos went viral on social media, appearing to show some of its leaders demanding bribes from aspirants for nomination.

In the first video, BJP Nashik secretary Nanasaheb Shiledar and office-bearer Arun Shendurnikar are shown demanding Rs.2 lakh from an aspirant for “campaign expenses” at the party’s offices in Nashik. In the second, another leader Gopal Patil is shown complaining about not getting nomination even after he paid Rs.10 lakh to unspecified persons.

The videos are believed to have been uploaded by a disgruntled aspirant.

The party leaders in Nashik have not yet questioned their veracity.

Meanwhile, the police have filed a case against two BJP aspirants in Pune for violating the model code of conduct, taking out rallies without permission.
