Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday denied reports that the State police had given a clean chit to Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in the Skylight Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. land-grab case.
He said investigation was under way to identify if Mr. Vadra was involved in the purchase of land beyond the ceiling limit for Skylight Hospitality. A report quoting the Bikaner police, which appeared on Tuesday, said Mr. Vadra was a “victim” of “conspiracy” and “fraud”.
The officer investigating the case, Ramavtar Soni, whom the report quoted as saying that Mr. Vadra was a victim of fraud, denied having said anything on the matter. “I did not speak to any reporter and the matter is under investigation,” Mr Soni told The Hindu .
‘False report’BJP MP Arjun Ram Meghwal, who had levelled charges against Mr. Vadra for the land grab in Bikaner, said the report was “false”.
Mr. Vadra was accused by the BJP of grabbing land in Haryana and Rajasthan, and investigations are on into the charges. Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Sachin Pilot told The Hindu : “It has been a long drawn campaign to malign [Mr. Vadra] prior to the reports of any inquiries ... The Central government, Haryana and Rajasthan governments are all BJP governments now, so we are open to any enquiry but it should be an unbiased enquiry.”
