Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to British Prime Minister Theresa May congratulating her on her assumption of new responsibility and affirmed India’s commitment to further strengthen the strategic bilateral partnership.

During the telephonic conversation on Tuesday, Mr. Modi also appreciated the UK’s consistent support to India in various global fora, the MEA spokesperson said today.

Thanking Prime Minister Mr. Modi, Ms. May said she looked forward to working closely with him for developing stronger bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in tackling pressing global challenges.

Mr. Modi also recalled his memorable visit to the UK last November.

Theresa May was sworn in as Britain’s new prime minister on July 13, succeeding David Cameron who resigned after the country voted in favour of exiting the European Union.
