A youth was sentenced to life term and a fine of Rs.20,000 by the Thodupuzha Additional Sessions Court on Saturday in a case related to the murder of his father-in-law in 2012. The prosecution case was that Upputhode Karimban Karolil Kannan, 30, stabbed to death his father-in-law Thankamani Nayarupara Vadakkedathu Mani. Though a witness, Simi Silvi, wife of Kannan, gave a statement at the police station that she had seen Kannan stabbing her father to death, she changed her statement later and said in the court that her farther had a weapon and it might have caused his death.

The prosecution argued that Kannan had reached the house of Mani with an intention to kill him. Simi was at her home when the murder was committed. The main witnesses included Mani’s wife Kuttiamma and a neighbour.
