One more person died of suspected dengue fever in the district as the deadly disease continues to hit several people.

Vasanth Naik, 26, son of Ramanna Naik, residing at Bandadukka, who was undergoing treatment for the last one week, died at a private hospital in Mangaluru the other day, taking the toll due to the disease after the onset of monsoon this season to three.

Treatment

Meanwhile, around eight persons hailing from Bandadukka, are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Mangaluru, reliable sources here said.

Even as the Health Department is seriously taking steps to check the spread of the disease, the district has reported 52 confirmed cases while around 250 are listed as suspected cases.

The disease is prevalent more in Pullur-Periye, East Eleri and West Eleri panchayats while hundreds are found to be approaching various government hospitals while unspecified number of people are relying private hospitals and those in Mangaluru for medical care.

Streamline efforts

Even though a high-level meeting, chaired by Minister-in-Charge E. Chandrasekharan here recently, underscored the need to streamline efforts to contain the spread of the disease, the officials could not take effective and prompt steps in view of acute shortage of physicians in several government hospitals.
