Sabarinath, 19, hailing from Coimbatore, died after he fell off a houseboat into water in Kuttanad on Saturday evening. He was part of an 18-member tourist team, according to the police. Two others who jumped into the water to save him were rescued by boat workers. The body of the youngster was sent for post-mortem at Medical College hospital, Vandanam, Alappuzha.
The incident occurred at Marthandam in Chithirakayal area. The youngster had reportedly fallen off accidentally while merrymaking on the upper deck of the boat. The accident occurred in an area where the water was reportedly deep and had undercurrents. The body was retrieved with the help of personnel of the Fire and Rescue Services.
