Work on eco-tourism project by September

: A high-level meeting held at Wagamaon has decided to start work on the Wagamon-Thekkady-Idukki-Gavi Eco-tourism Circuit project by September.

Technical and the financial support for the project has already been received. The project is expected to give a boost to the tourism sector in the Area, including Gavi in Pathanamthitta district.

District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) chairman and District Collector A..Kausigan said a location map should be prepared and a project report has to be submitted before June 30.

The views of all stakeholders of the project would be considered, he said and added that it should be completed on a time-bound basis.

According to DTPC secretary K.V. Francis, a sum of Rs. 30 crore of the total project amount will be for Gavi and Rs. 69 crore for Idukki district.

He said adventure tourism would be promoted in Wagamon and a walkway would be built in the pine valley forest. Two eco-log accommodation facilities will be constructed in Wagamon and Cheruthoni where DTPC has 110 acres and 100 acres of land respectively. In Cheruthoni, an eco-log facility will be built below the arch dam.

The two eco-log facilities will cost Rs. 10 lakh each, he said. Amphitheatre, parking facilities and infrastructure development would be built giving importance to eco-friendly schemes, he added.

The meeting was attended by Joice George, M.P., E.S. Bijimol, MLA, and officials of the Revenue and Tourism departments.
