: The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has fallen considerably.

On Tuesday, the level was 110.6 ft and Tamil Nadu drew water at 100 cft a second.

With the fall in level, tree stumps have surfaced over the water in Thekkady Lake, making operation of tourism boats difficult.

Tourist boats have been diverted through safe channel.

However, an official of the Periyar Tiger Reserve on Tuesday said that boat services were being conducted as usual and there was an increase in tourist inflow in view of school, college vacations.

The boat landing stations had to be shifted after the water level reached 108 ft.

Though low-range areas in the district have had a light spell of summer rain, there has hardly been any rainfall in the high ranges, resulting in severe shortage of water, with many rivers already dried up, sources said.

There was not much rainfall in the catchment area of Thekkady Lake, resulting in the falling water level compared to the last year.
