UDF to solve issues in Idukki, Malappuram

: The United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership has decided to convene a meeting of the district leaders from Malappuram and Idukki to sort out irritants that have been affecting the relations of coalition partners.

The Congress is having trouble with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in Malappuram and the Kerala Congress (M) in Idukki and Kottayam. There are at least 15 local bodies in Malappuram and 20 in Idukki where the Congress is at logger heads with the IUML and the Kerala Congress (M) respectively. These are mostly local bodies where the local interests of the parties clash. With powerful leaders in the Congress such as Aryadan Mohammed, who makes no bones about his opposition to the IUML, it has become a usual practice for the two parties to make attempts to solve the irritants around election time.

IUML goes it alone

In several of these local bodies, the IUML has contested alone or in alliance with the CPI(M).
